Digital Presence for Engineers: What are Your Emails Really Saying?

August 9, 2017 @ 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm

Speaker: Ash Norton, Ash Norton Engineering Leadership

Session Description

Digital presence isn’t something that gets discussed or often taught to structural engineers, but it should be. It helps you communicate who you are, and the value you bring to your employer, co-workers, and clients.

This SE University session will focus on how email can affect your digital presence as an engineer. A preferred form of business communication because of its accessibility, email usage has best practices that are important to be aware of so that tone and intent can be clearly understood. During this session, Ash Norton will discuss some of the common challenges of email communication, and present examples to show how email can be used to establish a strong digital presence.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this session, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify the steps of establishing a strong digital presence.
  • Identify common challenges with communicating using emails.
  • Given a digital presence goal and two email options, correctly identify which email most closely aligns with the desired digital presence.

Handouts and registration emails for this session will be sent to SE University companies on Friday, August 4th.
