Project Quality and Inspection Requirements

July 11, 2018 @ 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm

Speaker: Dave Adams, S.E.

The work of a professional engineer is judged based on a predefined standard of care, which does not require perfection but appropriate attention to detail. A similar level of quality is to be expected during construction, where numerous checks and balances are applied throughout the process in order to assist in achieving goals specified in building codes. Materials must meet a certain level of durability in order to maintain intended performance criteria, and special inspections are necessary to assure substantial compliance with the construction documents. Multiple quality and inspection issues will be presented in this session so that the attendee will gain a more complete understanding of the goals and requirements for quality assurance of constructed facilities.

Learning Objectives:

After participating in this session, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand the building department’s role in overseeing construction quality.
  • Identify specifications for durable materials of construction.
  • Define inspection and observation tasks over the course of a project.

Handouts and registration emails for this session will be sent to SE University companies on Friday, July 6th.
