Are You Licensed in NJ? Updates to Continuing Education Requirements

In the ever changing world of continuing education requirements, New Jersey now requires that continuing education hours come from approved or exempt providers, or the individual licensee needs to submit a form and pay $10.00 to get a course approved. For more details please go to http://njconsumeraffairs.gov/pels/ContCompAppForm.pdf. Page 1 is an application form and Page 2 goes into more detail on the requirements.

THE GOOD NEWS: SE University is an Approved Provider in NJ now so the hours coming from SE University programs qualify as coming from an approved provider. Our approval number is 24GP00002700 and we expect that it should be posted on their website in the near future at http://njconsumeraffairs.gov/pels/. (Current information on providers is only available for Land Surveying.)

BACKGROUND: New Jersey started requiring continuing education hours with the last renewal that occurred on April 30, 2012. They were initially going to require that credits come from approved or exempt providers, but that was changed so that hours used for the April 30, 2012 renewal did not have to come from approved/exempt providers. However, hours from May 1, 2012 through April 30, 2014 will need to come from approved/exempt providers (or the individual licensee can submit the form above to the State and pay $10.00 to have the course reviewed for acceptance).

The latest information of which we are aware is from the following document/form on the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs website at http://njconsumeraffairs.gov/pels/ContCompAppForm.pdf (dated July 2012). There is a document on the Alerts page that is marked NEW; however, this document is the same one used for the April 2012 renewal, where hours did not need to come from approved providers.
