I love when you set out to write one thing, and end up writing something just a little bit different. When we started brainstorming for this article, we were going to be focusing on Virtual Collaboration, and how structural engineers can use document sharing (i.e. Google Docs/Cloud Applications) to share information among different members of the design team.
During a conference call one day, I had a conversation with an engineer from Odeh Engineers, and an engineer from Simpson, Gumpertz & Heger, and I asked them for some of their thoughts. We had a very interesting conversation that shifted the perspective of the article to focus on the role that virtual meeting software can play in bringing together members of the design team, while lowering travel costs, and allowing engineers to serve a wider geographic area.
