Progressive Collapse Analysis – When is it Required for a Federal Building? {Video}

Do you have a federal building project where you need to determine if a progressive collapse analysis is needed? Are you aware of recent additions to redundancy requirements for federal structures?

During our March 2016 session, Implementation of the ISC Physical Security Design Requirements for Federal Buildings, Aldo McKay, PE, from Protection Engineering Consultants, offered guidelines to structural engineers for the progressive collapse analyses of federal buildings. During the session Aldo described how a structure must be able to bridge over a “damaged” load bearing element without spreading collapse. A flowchart was presented to indicate when progressive collapse analysis is required based on project type, building height, and federal security level.

An overview of progressive collapse, including a discussion on when a progressive collapse analysis is required, can be found in this video clip below.
