Seismic Design – Appropriate Implementation of the Overstrength Omega o Factor (12:30pm – 2pm Eastern)
This SE University session focused on design considerations for composite beam systems when the strength demand on the member is approaching, or possibly exceeding, the member capacity. The presentation covered special considerations for retrofitting a composite beam while it is under load, a rational approach to evaluating the influence of slab openings on composite beam behavior, and discussion regarding minimum partial composite action including upcoming changes to the 2016 AISC Specification. Design examples were presented to help illustrate the various concepts.
