Speaker:
Matthew Timmers, SE
Date:

Session Details

1.5 PDHs / 0.2 IACET CEUs

With many developers and architects exploring mass timber construction, there is a greater need for members of the design team to understand the unique considerations required to successfully implement these materials. This SEU presentation will give an overview of structural-related aspects of mass timber design, including materials, fire protection and ratings, connections, gravity and lateral systems, and diaphragms. Discussion will include building code considerations such as fire resistance and construction type selection, along with lessons learned from the presenter’s experience designing mass timber projects.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe International Building Code requirements for mass timber including fire resistance and construction type.
  • Identify gravity and lateral framing components of mass timber buildings, including typical assemblies.
  • Define requirements for fire design of structural members and their connections.

Session Registration Emails will be sent on Friday, May 3rd.

Session Handouts will be made available by Tuesday, May 7th.
