Geotechnical reports are critical for structural engineers to comprehend in order to design a safe, serviceable, and economical foundation system. Geotechnical reports also contain much more information than just the soil bearing pressure, but what is that information and why is it important?
In this session, engineers learned about the elements of a comprehensive Request for Proposal for geotechnical services, to establish the basis for a report that meets the design team’s requirements. The speaker reviewed the elements of a thorough geotechnical engineering report as they related to a specific project, and showed how a good geotechnical engineering report should provide more than just the allowable design bearing pressure, since there are numerous recommendations that should be included to give general and specific guidance to the design team.
