When your structure has a horizontal or vertical irregularity, do you find yourself trying to quickly recall the additional seismic design requirements you need to consider? In December 2016, Kimberley Robinson, PE, SE, from SunSteel, LLC, gave a presentation on Structural Irregularities per the ASCE7-10 Seismic Design Requirements. Kim’s presentation focused on visually being able to identify horizontal and vertical irregularities in structures, followed by a discussion of what the code requires for each type of irregularity.
Kim shared a helpful resource to identify which additional seismic design criteria are required based on which structural irregularity is present in your structure.
