This SE University presentation provided an overview of the significant changes for wood design per AWC’s National Design Specification® (NDS) for Wood Construction. The 2018 NDS is referenced in the 2018 International Building Code and 2018 International Residential Code and used to design wood structures worldwide. Participants learned about changes in the 2018 NDS to address increased wind loads, and gained an overview of the standard. A brief introduction to tall mass timber structures was also included, with information on the new construction types adopted for the 2021 International Building Code (IBC).
