Guide to Understanding a Project Geotechnical Report (12:30pm – 2pm Eastern)
During this SE University session, Ian McFarlane, PE, of Magnusson Klemencic Associates, discussed design of mat foundations for both non-seismic and high-seismic conditions. The session described the uses of mat foundations, covered historical perspectives that have led to the current procedures, and discussed soil properties and soil-structure interaction.
Guidance was provided for proportioning, analysis, and design for mat foundations. Code requirements and accepted approaches to their implementation were addressed, with additional discussion on best practices that go beyond code minimum requirements. Detailing and constructability tips were also presented.
Session Length: 1.5 Hours
