Session Description

Cold-formed steel design guidelines are developed by two committees of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), and with each new edition of the IBC building code the structural engineering community encounters new cold-formed steel design guidance. This SEU session will review the suite of AISI standards referenced in IBC 2021, and highlight the relevant changes to the standards. A summary of available AISI design aids will also be presented.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the available cold-formed steel design standards.
  • Identify changes in cold-formed design standards as adopted by IBC 2021.
  • Summarize the interdependence of the cold-formed steel framing standards and the cold-formed steel specification.
