Geotechnical Engineering is the foundation (pun very much intended) of nearly all civil engineering projects, but is often overlooked or misunderstood by even those directly involved with project design and construction. This SEU Presentation will discuss the importance of geotechnical engineering investigations across all aspects of the project team, basic field exploration and laboratory testing programs, and the importance of understanding the entire geotechnical report.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the importance of a project geotechnical report to various members of the project team.
  • Describe the field exploration methods and tests commonly used as part of a project geotechnical evaluation.
  • Discuss why understanding the entire geotechnical report is important.
