Many engineers have studied the ethics of competency, confidentiality and conflicts of interest.  Fewer are familiar with the ethics of competition, which are often overlooked.  This presentation will be a primer on those ethics, focusing on qualifications based selection, gifts and advertising.

  • Recognize ethical issues arising from engineering competition
  • Explain how qualifications-based selection works and its ethical and other legal implications
  • Name the ethical and legal implications of gifts
  • Identify the ethical constraints on advertisement
