The Chevron Effect – A Paradigm Shift in Approach to Analysis

Speaker:
Dr. Patrick J. Fortney, PE, SE, P.Eng / University of Cincinnati
Date:
May 10, 2017
Session Details

This SE University session presented several methods for distributing brace forces in chevron gussets, provided an analysis of the effect of the brace forces on the frame beam, and offered an approach for evaluating the effect on the beam as a function of the location of the work point along the length of the beam and the magnitude of the unbalanced vertical force. Closed-form equations were provided to give the structural engineer tools for evaluating the impact of the chevron effect.

Session Length: 1.5 Hours
