Seismic Design – Appropriate Implementation of the Overstrength Omega o Factor (12:30pm – 2pm Eastern)
Devastating tornadoes causing loss of life and massive property damage have pushed the design industry into seeking new ways to protect the public during these events. With the 2015 requirement, structural engineers have been tasked with designing tornado shelters to do just that. This SE University session covered the provisions of ICC/NSSA 500 and FEMA P-361 for which the shelter must be designed, as well as reviewed issues and considerations specific to shelter design that aren’t often encountered in typical commercial design.
Session Length: 1.5 Hours
