Seismic Design – Appropriate Implementation of the Overstrength Omega o Factor (12:30pm – 2pm Eastern)
Structural engineers do not often have the opportunity to learn about the important topic of welding. A variety of welding-related myths continue to be promulgated, oftentimes by well- intentioned albeit misinformed professionals. Without formal training by structural engineers to dispute such claims, these myths live on. In this SE University presentation by Duane Miller, PE, from The Lincoln Electric Company, myths were presented and challenged. Topics discussed included selection of weld types, weld orientation, weld backing, shop versus field welding, overhead welding, prequalified WPSs, weld quality, and welding costs.
