Session Description

This SEU Presentation is the first in a two-part series on Building Envelope Deterioration, Investigation & Repair, and will begin with a look at roofing systems. Presenter D. Matthew Stuart, PE, SE, of Partner Engineering and Science, will discuss inspection and repair options for a variety of roofing materials, including those used in both steep slope and low slope roof systems. The speaker will then provide information about masonry facades, including how these facades can be safely accessed for inspections and investigations, and will review options for masonry façade repairs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize how most roof structures behave as flexible diaphragms for the distribution of imposed lateral loads.
  • Identify the different types of façade and cladding materials.
  • Define the different types of deterioration that can be encountered on facades for different types of cladding.
