This session focused on “Understanding Steel Connections” as opposed to “Designing Steel Connections”. As the responsible engineer, you should understand connection behavior and have the capability to perform hand calculations to verify software results.

The following items were covered during the session:

*The 5 steps required to analyze any connection
*The possible limit states for each joint type and how to calculate them
*How to intuitively understand the Uniform Force Method and variations of the method

The course concluded with an overview of commercially available connection design software and a brief demonstration showing the use of one.

Session Length: 1.5 hours
